Of mice and money.

Sorry Mr Steinbeck I stole and altered your title.
I was wandering the webisphere when I came across this article, http://thebulletin.us/articles/2009/10/10/arts_culture/doc4ad0ea94cb65e011619998.txt I read it and chuckled in a very unhumerous fashion,BT have been doing this to me for yonks, they charge £4.50 a quarter if you pay in cash for 'processing your payment' and then they stick an extra fiver on your next bill if you don't pay within a few days.In fact this quarter they have excelled even their usual money grubbing standards,it seems they have renewed my contract with them while I was looking the other way,in the process they have added an extra weeks debt to my bill "covers your broadband from when you took up the service right up to your next bill".All because I am a poor person who daren't hold plastic etc.
While I am having a good old whine about money,my boss had an episode of gall bladder pain at the weekend and thanks to private healthcare has already seen a surgeon and had a scan.............Now for the smelly yucky bit of my blog, somewhere under my bedroom floorboards is a deceased mouse,I can smell it,I have taken up any loose boards I can find and I still can't find the body,I am not a happy lady.I cannot disguise the smell,if I use enough air freshener/incense to cover it I shall die of asthma, hopefully it will soon ruddy mummify.Maybe I should send a cat mummy after it ?
Oh by the way,pop over to digital cuttlefish and read this little amusing poetic piece about that stupid man, his weather-balloon and the not floating away kid. http://digitalcuttlefish.blogspot.com/2009/10/icarus-daedalus-falcon-and-richard.html

Work,work,work.

I am sitting here at the pooter eating my Sunday dinner,Gypsy toast, for anyone interested, how good is that, whatever I fancy I can have,no having to produce a huge meal for a herd of squabbling offspring,oh life is so tough :-)
I have spent the day working on the hippy-trippy blanket for middling daughters winter solstice gift,I was giving myself a headache with all those busy colours,so I have taken a break and been looking on-line for any ideas for youngest daughters pressie. She has requested a memory blanket, basically a quilt with memories of childhood on,so being a pauper or near as damn it,I have to do this on a tight budget. The plan is thus, instead of mega-money batting it will be stuffed with a soft fluffy blankie as the batting, lets be honest with today's quilts the blankie will be just ornamental anyway,I will cut out and stitch to it lots of silhouettes of kids and a dog, assorted cats and birds and chickens throw in the odd flower and apple and it should be done,I have found a really good tutorial for bias binding, which if made to the right size will be fine for quilt edging, along with that lot I am also making youngest a couple of tabards, to wear when she starts her new nannying job, from some lovely vintage looking teddy bear fabric, ideal as the kids are both under a year and a half.
So........more work to do.

I see Bush has finally been officially bubbled on his reasons for the Iraq war,god made him do it or it was prophesied or some other demented twaddle. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/andrewbrown/2009/aug/10/religion-george-bush

I can imagine a modern take on the dig for England posters soon http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8189549.stm MI5 have been disseminating, Sir John Scarlett, said his officers were “as committed to the values and the human rights values of liberal democracy as anybody else.” He said there had been “no torture, and no complicity in torture” by Britain’s intelligence agencies, as several former detainees at the United States camp in Guantánamo Bay have alleged. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/11/world/europe/11britain.html?ref=global-home
The ACLU have started proceedings against a company that holds patents on the BRC1 and BRC" breast cancer genes...I hope they win.

News from the homestead

Over the last three days we have had a problem with a smell at work,on Tuesday morning I found what I thought was a simple milk spill by the fridge,so I scrubbed the floor opened the fridge found no milk and went about my other business.Late Tuesday afternoon there was a terrible stink coming from near the fridge,so the fridge was emptied out and scrubbed and the floor was rewashed........Wednesday the smell was worse,so using a bamboo cane I ran a cloth about under the fridge(it is built into an existing cupboard so has a one inch gap under it) all clean and dry,so floor was again scrubbed this time with dettol.
I opened the back door at work this morning to be hit in the face with a stench so bad it made me gag,I removed the fridge from its cupboard and scrubbed the shelves the wall behind and the floor, then I looked at the back of the fridge,it has an evaporator,a little tank over the warmth of the motor and under a little drain hole in the fridge, the milk had run out the drain hole and into the tank where the warmth had made it grow the scariest smell you can possibly imagine.......... (insert pukey face here)
Sarah has had the same day and a half really sick as our Sammy had with the flu and is feeling a bit better not well but better,so being snowed under at work she went in,I have given her a social responsibility lecture and explained she may pass it on to someone who won't have it as easy as her.
We are having a monsoon here,we have had some pretty impressive showers this year already, but today takes the biscuit,as I type I have all the lights on,it is so dark you would imagine it were 8.30 at night, except of course for when the lightning bolts are flying
The chickens went to bed after lunch as they thought it was dusk,we had a break in the weather and they got up only to get drenched in the next lot, they are now sulking under a table in the garden

Writing a novel(nearly)

I am going to start taking a pen and paper to bed with me. I have a few hot flashes warm spells at night, they promote some really odd dystopian sci-fi dreams..........next time I wake calling for the humanitol to save us all, I want to try and write the back story down.
I have obviously been reading from too many weird websites, between yesterdays real mad scientists who were trying to mix ape and human to raise a race of slaves and fearless soldiers(true) to the mad conspiracy theorists who think the flu jab is about mass murder and mind control, my overheated middle-aged middle of the night brain is concocting some fantastic scenarios..........
What I need now is someone literate to turn my ramblings into a best seller

It's a bloody conspiracy.

Ok so there I was, wandering the ether world that is the web, searching for a collection of the best conspiracy theories to point and laugh at..........well I may have found the best of the lot.........
There is this really halfwitted reporter by the name of Jane Burgermeister,In her charges, Burgermeister presents evidence of acts of bioterrorism that is in violation of U.S. law by a group operating within the U.S. under the direction of international bankers who control the Federal Reserve, as well as WHO, UN and NATO. This bioterrorism is for the purpose of carrying out a mass genocide against the U.S. population by use of a genetically engineered flu pandemic virus with the intent of causing death. This group has annexed high government offices in the U.S.Specifically, evidence is presented that the defendants, Barack Obama, President of the U.S, David Nabarro, UN System Coordinator for Influenza, Margaret Chan, Director-General of WHO, Kathleen Sibelius, Secretary of Department of Health and Human Services, Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Department of Homeland Security, David de Rotschild, banker, David Rockefeller, banker, George Soros, banker, Werner Faymann, Chancellor of Austria, and Alois Stoger, Austrian Health Minister, among others, are part of this international corporate criminal syndicate which has developed, produced, stockpiled and employed biological weapons to eliminate the population of the U.S. and other countries for financial and political gain.
..................Whatever she is on I don't want any, that is one scary trip.
Just read the first paragraph of this document she produced...

The poor woman is barking, but it gets even better.........Michael Jackson was murdered with a stolen Russian weapon because he supported her............. http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70290
I absolutely love conspiracy theories,as if life isn't difficult enough to understand, you have all these people who think Occam's razor is used for shaving.

What is wrong with people?

I just had a woman from over the road knock on my door claiming she has been told by her GP to let the neighbourhood know she has swine flu...........I explained in words of one syllable that she was a lying bovine, doctors do not suggest spreading the disease to asthmatic neighbours..................grrrr

Are the government worried ? or are they preparing us in case things get worse?

Anyone who knows me well will tell you I have been avidly studying influenza and virology since 1997,the obsession started with H5N1 otherwise known as bird or avian influenza. So I am fairly up on the goings on around this unpredictable disease.
I am supplying my sources for all this info at the bottom of this page.
The government are saying that death certificates are going to be fast tracked to help docs cope with Swine flu,the details released after the autopsy on the doc who died in Northampton say he died of pulmonary embolism ,in case you didn't know that can be a result of ARDS brought on by the viral pneumonia that he was suffering from, this is the most complex way I can imagine that one denies flu as a cause of death while actually saying it was the cause.A whole load of the tamiflu we have stockpiled in this country goes out of date in the early part of this Autumn, the powers that be are talking about extending its death date.Britain's medical chief, Sir Liam Donaldson said "between 30 to 35% of people could come down with the virus this winter." I wonder how many of us have an underlying medical condition, asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney or liver disease, obesity, pregnancy the list goes on and on,seems to me that being alive in the first place is an underlying medical condition.
The virus hasn't yet changed to become more dangerous, but lets do the numbers,if 10% of my village, say a hundred people normally get seasonal flu and out of those 1% die, what happens when you get 30 to 35% sick a good percentage of those with underlying conditions? even if you stick to the 1% figure 1% of 350 is more dead than 1% of 100.I really hope this flu peters out and becomes a simple seasonal flu really quickly or we will all be in trouble.
Oh and don't rely on a safe vaccine before November time.
Even more worrying are reports coming in from Indonesia of a vet who has tested positive for swine flu that he thinks he caught from sick chickens.......lets hope no chicken gets H5N1 at the same time as it gets H1N1,the current case fatality ratio for bird flu is hovering around sixty percent.Maybe we should all try ginger tea

Blady coot

What is it with cats ?
This morning I was asleep having had a dreadful night, the cat was pawing and paddling, nudging and stomping on me........why oh why did I not either bash him or get up ? instead I lay there getting pummelled and pretending to be asleep....
Time and again this happens and still I behave as though the cat is a human who can listen to my fake sleep-breathing and will go away and leave me in peace.
